If your customer’s journey involves heavy use of the braking system i.e. heavy traffic, towing caravans or mountainous areas, it is best to check their brakes and possibly replace any worn components well before the departure, to have enough time to perform the bedding-in process in ideal conditions.

AIR SUSPENSION INSTALLATION - TIPS

Being the aftermarket air suspension specialist, Arnott is keen to make sure all installers feel confident and are well informed when carrying out an air suspension repair.

TIPS FOR COMPRESSORS ■ Compressor burn-out or overload is often a consequential damage which makes it crucial to check the air suspension system for possible leaks. Usually, it is easy to recognise if a compressor failed due to burn-out/overload because it smells burnt or the compressor labels have turned yellow

■ After installing an air spring, always make sure to double-check that the lower piston is mounted correctly and seated/ engaged in its mounting pins/locks ■ Make sure the airline is properly placed and routed

■ When installing the airline on an Arnott part, it is almost never necessary to remove or tighten the fitting. If removed, Arnott recommends tightening the Voss fitting with maximum 2Nm

■ After installation,

■ When replacing a compressor always replace the relay as well and check or replace the air filter

check if the wiring/ connectors are positioned properly

■ Always inflate the air spring whilst supporting the vehicle. If neglected the vehicle weight is unevenly distributed

Shock absorbers - upgraded! Gas charged shock absorbers would normally be reserved for a selected range of applications or only as an optional upgrade. Starline is different, as all have been upgraded and are gas as standard. Low pressure nitrogen gas is added to provide enhanced comfort and noise reduction. Premium product at no extra cost. Oil or gas? What are the differences? A gas shock absorber is a hydraulic shock, it’s injected with a certain amount of low-pressure nitrogen gas. Gas shocks have valves with large holes to give comfort and smaller holes for driver control. Oil shock absorbers can generate bubbles in operation, resulting in knocks and noise inside of the shock.

Why steering systems often fail: ■ Hose residue in the system – power steering hoses deteriorate from the inside out, this causes rubber residue which may block the Power Steering System. To resolve, the system would need to be replaced every five years. ■ A faulty steering pump – metal debris from the steering pump can cause damage to the seals, scoring to the internals of the steering pump and rack.

All of our Electric Power Steering (EPS) racks are plug and play – a term that describes the simplicity that we bring to problem installations and in 95% of occasions, eliminates the need for programming of the remanufactured EPS product supplied.

The main reasons for flushing the system on all power steering systems is that the fluid becomes contaminated during regular use, and the contamination will cause premature failure of hydraulic seals under pressure.

You’ve ordered your hydraulic steering system via Omnipart or your local branch and it has arrived and it’s ready for fitting. In the box, you will find instructions, we recommend you thoroughly read the information provided before fitting. Some product instructions may include QR codes for further fitting information.

Now you’ve got your new rack or pump, you need to remove any fault codes caused by the previously failed EPS product, that may be embedded or stored in the vehicle ECU.

As you’re fitting a new system – you’ll need new fluid to flush out the old, stock up via Omnipart!

A calibration needs to be performed during installation every time a replacement product is fitted. Failure to do this can cause premature failure of your EPS remanufactured product.

Now you’ve got your new rack or pump and plenty of new fluid you are ready to make a start… You must completely flush the system before fitting the NEW Rack or Pump This is VERY important so that the system does not fail from the start – i.e. the old fluid damaging seals.

VARTA BATTERY FITTING INSTRUCTION EXCLUSIVE TO OMNIPART CUSTOMERS.

With the increased complexity of battery replacement on newer vehicles and especially start stop models, we have worked closely with Varta to provide a step-by-step guide. For start stop batteries fitment can be tricky, and location of these batteries are not always the easiest to find. Take the Range Rover Velar, the battery is stowed away in the boot. These guides aim to take away the complexity of fitment, saving you time, and best of all not having turn work away to another garage or OES.

LUK SELF-ADJUSTING CLUTCH (SAC)

As clutches are subjected to continuous wear and tear, LuK has invested tremendous efforts in the development of a wear adjustment solution. The SAC uses a load sensor (sensor diaphragm spring) to activate its wear adjustment function by turning a ramped ring. This wear adjusting mechanism reduces the required actuation forces while increasing clutch life by around 1.5 times. In addition, actuation forces remain nearly unchanged throughout the clutch's service life. As clutch actuation comfort requires a harmonic operating load curve in addition to low actuation forces, the SAC was designed with the capacity to be tuned to each vehicle’s specific characteristic curve. The new SAC II does not use a second diaphragm spring as a load sensor; instead, it has fingers formed from the main diaphragm spring and special tangential leaf springs with a regressive characteristic curve.

SACHS WORKSHOP TIPS TIP #1 CLUTCH SLIPPING

Clutch slipping symptoms can be as varied and wide-ranging as the causes. In this case, there are a few things to check: 1. Facings – are they worn down to rivet heads? 2. Facings – heavily contaminated with oil or grease? 3. Clutch facing – is it burnt or has it disintegrated?

In recent years Self-Adjusting Clutches have become the standard equipment in applications with high engine torque or with increased requirements for wear reserve. The essential advantages of the SAC over conventional designs are: ■ Low release loads which remain constant throughout the entire service life ■ Therefore, excellent driving comfort throughout the entire service life ■ Increased reserve for wear and consequently longer service life thanks to automatic wear adjustment ■ Release bearing over-travel is prevented by the diaphragm spring end stop.

• Check vehicle has correct parts fitted • Check the flywheel is correctly reworked

• See if any lubricant has contaminated the friction surfaces • Check if there has been a deformation and/or warping of the friction surfaces on the flywheel and pressure plate.

With greater emphasis being put on environmental policies and needs, vehicle emissions play a large part in the green agenda. Tighter MOT regulations on emissions means that it features quite prominently in the list of MOT fails. Changing filters, oil and spark plugs is one part of getting a car through its emission test, but have you thought about. Adding carbon cleaning as well? Carbon cleaning can help improve a vehicle’s performance while lowering a customer’s carbon footprint. Up to 70% of clogged DPFs are unnecessarily scrapped, meaning you could be paying for a replacement when cleaning would restore the part to perfect working condition.

Optimising the transmission performance Transmission and transmission oil are subject to wear and tear and strongly depend on the operational conditions. In order to optimise service life and performance, ZF Aftermarket recommend regular checks and, where necessary, transmission oil changes too. This is particularly advisable for operating conditions with high temperatures and loads such as heavy cargo or trailer operation. Shorter change intervals are also advisable for many journeys at high speeds, very sporty driving or unknown vehicle use in the past.

Throughout 2022, we will continue to expand our Travel and Leisure offering. Really excitingly, this year we will be launching a range of new products specifically aimed at the van conversion market. As with our Brink towing range, the product range is being sourced through Nova Leisure. There will be 17 products in this initial launch phase, with a view to increase that number later in the year. Currently, in the UK, around 12,000 van conversions take place every year. Of those, one-third are carried out by individual DIY-ers. The most popular models of van to convert are the VW T5 and T6 and the Fiat Ducato, which together make up 80% of all conversions carried out.
