MAIN HEADING KANNAD MARINE LOCATION BEACONS

PERSONAL LOCATOR BEACONS (PLB) & EMERGENCY POSITION INDICATING RADIO BEACONS (EPIRB) PLB’s and EPIRB’s are used to alert search and rescue services in an emergency by transmitting a coded message using the dedicated 406MHz distress frequency. This distress code is communicated via satellite to the nearest rescue co-ordination centre and clearly identifies the vessel or person the beacon is registered to and it’s position within 3nm. Kannad Marine GPS enabled PLB’s and EPIRB’s provide a typical positioning accuracy of +/- 62 metres and transmit regular positioning updates to the search and rescue services.

All Kannad Marine PLB’s and EPIRBS have a secondary distress transmitter. This transmits on 121.5MHz and allows the rescue services to ‘home in’ on the signal when they get close. Kannad EPIRB’s are also equipped with a high brightness LED flash light aiding final visual location at night or in poor visibility conditions.

Kannad EPIRBs & PLBs are programmed and shipped with UK serialisation as standard. These products can be supplied with serialisation for other countries on request. SAR beacons should be registered before use as this will aid a search and rescue incident.
