DRIVE PLATES

The drive plate, or damper as it is often called, bolts to the engine flywheel, and connects the engine to the transmission / gearbox splined shaft. The damping is achieved by two methods. R & D drive plates feature a special nylon polymer moulding, designed to be stiff enough to transmit the engine power yet flexible enough to isolate vibration and shock. They are also designed to fail safe in the event of an emergen cy. Drive Force drive plates feature a ring of springs between the engine mount plate and the transmission spline plate.

Many engines start life fitted with a “standard” drive plate, however, many engine marinisers have their own special “standard”. Therefore, to ensure we supply the correct drive plate for your engine, please advise us of the following information:

A. Outside diameter of back plate, and if it is required to locate in a register. B. P.C.D. of fixing bolts, number and diameter. C. Engine make and model. D. Maximum engine horsepower and RPM. E. Make, model and gearbox reduction. F. Use of boat (i.e. commercial, pleasure, sailing etc.).

More torisonally flexible than the loop type, usually has smaller diameter element than other designs but still retains the ability to be mounted either way round on the flywheel and rotate in either direction.
