Drive Plates

Drive Plates - To connect the engine flywheel to the gearbox input shaft.

To isolate torsional vibrations at slow speeds it is necessary to have soft drive connection, which must be sufficiently strong to transmit the full engine torque. R&D’s damped drive plates meet these requirements. They are of high grade steel construction with a new type polyurethane moulded element and fail-safe design, so in the unlikely event of a flexible element failing, the drive is maintained. Advantages and benefits include reduction of gear noise, allowing the engine to run at lower speed and R&D’s drive plates have no springs to rust, fret or rattle.

R&D drive plates are made from 3 key parts:

Centre Boss: With various spline options to suit all commonly available gearbox input shafts.

Damper Element: R&D have three styles of damper. The loop type is suitable for most applications but in some applications the 2 or 3 stage stiffness of the ‘Hammer Head’ or ‘High Deflection’ type is more suitable. Please contact us if you need assistance. Back-Plate: Available in different diameters with a variety of hole patterns for mounting onto engine flywheel. Special options can be made to order.

R&D’s part number, usually stamped on the edge around the circumference of the plate, is made up of codes for each of the 3 parts to the plate, e.g 22 AA37. “22” is the spline code, “AA” is the damper and the “ 37 ” is the back-plate. The following 2 tables list popular drive plates and are grouped with information that will help identify the plate you need.
