Galvanic Isolation
Victron Isolation Transformer 3600W
The Victron isolation transformer is essential for preventing electrolytic corrosion and to guarantee a safe electrical system on board boats. It eliminates electrical continuity between AC shore power and the boat and eliminates the need for galvanic isolators and polarity alarms. When using shore power, if the ground wire from the shore supply is connected to a metal part of the boat, galvanic corrosion will occur. This can attack important areas such as the propeller and shaft, as well as quickly dissolving anodes that are there to protect them. Not connecting the ground wire is not a viable work around for this, as this would mean fuses and Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs) will not work in case of an electrical fault. This isolation transformer was designed to combat these issues and allow a safe shore power connection that is not harmful to your boat. Shore power is connected directly to the primary side of the transformer and the secondary side runs to the boat. The device completely isolates the boat from the shore power ground connection and eliminates electrical continuity between the shower power and the boat, while still offering protection through GFCIs and fuses. The Victron ITR040362041 features a soft start electrical system to prevent the shore power fuse from blowing, as well as a circuit breaker on the input side. It is quiet when in operation and is relatively light due to its aluminium construction. It can be used to transform 115V to 115V, 115V to 230V, 230V to 115V or 230V to 230V. VV-033
Victron Galvanic Isolator VDI-16 (16A)
Sterling Galvanic Isolator 30A
Connecting the ground wire of the AC-shore power to the metal parts of the boat will result in galvanic corrosion. It can occur on any boat as soon as a metal part (shaft and propeller) is in contact with water. The corrosion will quickly dissolve your zinc anodes and attack the shaft, propeller and other metal parts in contact with the water as soon as the boat is connected to the AC shore. Installing a Galvanic Isolator / Zinc Saver will maintain a good earth link with the shore, but prevent stray currents coming up the earth line and damaging the boat
Protect your investment from expensive hull repairs! If you are connected to a land line this is an essential piece of equipment to help protect your boat from galvanic corrosion. 16A Maximum Current 2 Stud Connection Weight: 1kg Weight Dimensions (H x W x D) 60mm x 120 x 200 VV-011
