The time has come. Euro Car Parts’ first major TV advertising campaign hits your screens in November and we want you to be the first to hear about it! Why TV? After all, we’re all in this together in an ongoing battle against our competition and if we want to grow our business we’re going to have to help you grow your business. So, our aim is to help Britain’s motorists understand what a fantastic service you provide; to recognise that your business is the first place to go for service and repair. Yes; our new TV campaign is going to shout loud and clear in praise of the service available from your local garage. And let’s be honest; it’s about time we celebrate and support the independent trade! And we haven’t cut any corners either. It was important we did this right, so we called in the big guns to produce this for us. The commercial has been directed by Jamie Delaney, a young star who is tipped for movie success, but interestingly comes from the highly rated Ridley Scott Associates who can count Gladiator, Alien, Black Hawk Down, Prometheus and Blade Runner among their successes – so you can see, they know how to do this properly.

Then it came to us, like a bolt from the blue…

The production company we used was FrameStore, who have been involved with Gravity, The Martian and Harry Potter among other massive films. It’s a quality production to show our industry off the best way we can, and we are very proud to be working with them.

The story’s a simple one, we only have 30 seconds after all… A young lady is driving through the countryside; she hadn’t been able to get her car serviced at the franchised dealer but Stuart at her local independent garage got the car in quickly and at the same time noticed the brakes needed changing. And a good job he did too! – Not that she is thinking about that until she rounds a corner and sees a road full of sheep! One emergency stop later and all’s well. The sheep pass by and the young lady can continue her journey unscathed – thanks to Stuart, her Hero. It’s a great safety message, which really brings the commercial to life – get your brakes checked; random sheep might be crossing the road at any time! We were completely clear from the very start of this project, the true Heroes of this campaign are you guys, so we thought……why you don’t star in the ad yourself?! The main Hero featured is in fact Stuart from Drivers Autocentre in Glasgow who was quite clearly selected for his good looks! As a business, the team at Drivers Autocentre kindly allowed the Director of the commercial, Jamie and his Ridley Scott Associates team, to take over the place for the day! And we are very grateful for his support. You may have heard that we also asked you all to submit small videos of yourselves that we could use for the end scenes – again showing true local real-life heroes. So where and when will we be running the commercial and how long for? To begin with, we’ll be on air for 3 weeks in November and the ad will be aired over 800 times in that short period, then we’ll spend some time analysing the results of the campaign before deciding our next steps, but overall we are delighted to get this campaign off the ground! This is a first for Euro Car Parts, and we are excited about your involvement. Be sure to keep an eye out over November, and see if any customers start calling you their Heroes! Or at least are singing the Bonnie Tyler classic!

Euro Vehicle Troubleshooting is an online diagnostic database and reference library that gives access to a database of over half a million technical queries resolved over the last 10 years. With an average of 600 repairs added each day – over 100,000 issues were resolved last year – the database is constantly growing and becoming increasingly sophisticated, learning multiple root causes of problems, fault codes and failures. Preliminary online Technician Assessments help us to gauge every technician’s current ability and level of understanding – we don’t waste time going over ground that’s already been covered. The Assessment consists of a questionnaire divided into three subjects: Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, and Diagnostics. Each subject is further divided into five sub- sections focusing on particular vehicle systems with five questions each, so the candidate has 75 questions to answer in 75 minutes. Course content is continually re-assessed and is aligned to the Euro Vehicle Troubleshooting online helpline – as the database grows, so these known faults and repairs are incorporated into the syllabus, to keep the training up to date and give technicians the information they need. Practical training can, when convenient to those attending, be held in Euro Academy’s new IMI Approved Centre, where all training sessions are IMI Quality Assured. Of course, we can hold sessions at any suitable location if logistically preferable. The Euro Academy provides its members with fast, easy access to the technical information and training they need to stay at the forefront of technology and give them a competitive edge in the marketplace. Or, more simply, we put a team of master technicians in your workshop, whenever you need them. ACADEMY MEMBERSHIP

There is a price to pay for such as advantage but it’s a lot lower than you might think. Euro Academy Membership is available by annual subscription, paid monthly in instalments. There are three levels of Membership to choose from: Level 1 – Full, unlimited use of the Helpline, unlimited access to Euro Vehicle Troubleshooting and unlimited online Technician Assessments Level 2 – Full, unlimited use of the Helpline, Euro Vehicle Troubleshooting and online Technician Assessments as above, plus a two-day training course for one technician each year Level 3 – Full, unlimited use of the Helpline, Euro Vehicle Troubleshooting and online Technician Assessments as above, plus three two-day training courses each year

Depending upon ability, a personal plan will cover up to 18 different subjects at either Basic or Advanced Level, spanning either two years for Advanced or three years for Basic Level technicians. Each subject is covered by eight hours of e-learning, accessed wherever and whenever it suits the technician, and eight hours of on-site practical training. On-site training takes place at a venue determined by the location of the trainees, and is restricted to no more than 10 technicians at a time. Personal training plans lead to Master Technician status, a degree of excellence that qualifies technicians for ongoing training on new technologies and systems implemented in the latest vehicles, allowing businesses to develop and diversify into new specialities and offer new services. At this level, courses adopt a modular structure, split 30% theory and 70% practical. Every two-day module includes an introduction to the course and details of the car, the system and its various components. The rest of the module is hands-on in the workshop, with a Master Technician and one of our specially prepared vehicles. We have 35 cars fitted with electronic fault simulators, programmed to reproduce up to 28 real technical faults. Air Flow Meters

An air flow meter is a component that measures air flow. It does not measure the volume of the air passing through the tube, it measures the mass of air flowing through the device per unit time. The manifold absolute pressure sensor is a sensor used in a vehicles engine management system. The manifold absolute pressure sensor provides manifold pressure information to the ECU. This information is used to calculate the air density and determine the engine's air mass flow rate. A typical naturally aspirated engine will use either a MAF sensor or a MAP sensor however a turbo engine typically uses both.

DENSO’s Stop/Start Technology DENSO’s Stop/Start Experience DENSO’s been working on stop/start technology since the 1980s. This experience, paired with their in-depth knowledge of powertrain and thermal management systems, gives them a unique advantage to provide carmakers with an overall systems approach. The company understands how to seamlessly integrate stop/ start components into the vehicle and can offer superior technical support that comes from decades of integration experience. DENSO can also offer carmakers different technology solutions depending on their specific needs and requirements. Starter Technology Overview Advanced Engagement (AE) Starter Already implemented in Europe and Asia, this longer-life starter technology allows carmakers to achieve approximately 3 to 5 percent (depending on engine size) in fuel savings. In terms of starter motor-based solutions for stop/start, AE is the easiest to integrate, requiring no unique controls or engine modifications. Tandem Solenoid (TS) Starter Also implemented in Europe and Japan, this starter technology allows automakers to achieve faster restart times than the AE, and potentially more fuel savings if combined with expanded areas of fuel cut, for example, engine shut-off during vehicle coasting. Compared to AE, the TS is Change of Mind Capable, which means it is able to re-engage into a moving ring gear/flywheel. CLUTCH CLINIC Problem: The Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC) rubber washer (TOP HAT) trapped inside the T piece with the bleed nipple. Result: Burst/Broken CSC, fluid leaks, non- working clutch.

Failure to remove this will result in the old seal getting squashed into the union when you fit the bleed nipple unit back on. This will restrict the fluid return flow which in turn means the CSC cannot return correctly. This normally results in over stoke (CSC overthrowing its maximum operating distance) due to the over pressurisation of the hydraulic system, leading to a hard or solid clutch pedal. Many instances of this have been observed where the CSC has burst, cracked or completely exploded, when this happens the “hard pedal” will obviously become soft/non-existent with the resulting leakage. Installers have in some cases fitted 3 or more concentric slaves and destroyed all of these before identifying the cause – which is simply the old top hat washer still trapped inside the union. Check the end of the old pipe, if the seal is not on the end of the pipe then it is trapped inside the union. Get a torch. Get a pick and get it out.

ANY PART FOR ANY CAR OVER 200 BRANCHES NATIONWIDE When you remove the U clip to detach the bleed nipple union from the CSC pipe, (this is the pipe that protrudes from the gearbox), you must check to ensure that the old seal is not still inside the bleed nipple T piece – if the old seal is still inside it must be removed - check the end of the old pipe, if the seal is not on the end of the pipe then it is trapped inside the union. Get a torch. Get a pick and get it out. When completing a clutch/CSC change on any vehicle it is good practice to adopt the procedure listed below.
