A message from Kevan Welcome to the latest edition of Garage Support. We’ve got some exciting and useful updates to share – all designed to support you and your customers in the months ahead. Although the range of vehicles that are rolling into your workshop for servicing or repair, are powered mainly by the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), you’re also seeing a gradual increase of ‘Electric’ powertrains – Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles. Our independently verified data shows the gradual increase in the already and on-going popularity of electric vehicles. It is predicted that in the next two years that BEV and PHEV powered vehicles on the road will increase by 58% and 13% respectively. Insulating your garage doors keeping them shut as much as possible, and overlaying PVC strip curtains to exclude draughts when they’re open, can each help to minimise demand on central and mobile heating systems – while comfortably meeting your duty of care to ensure safe working temperatures.

When it’s dark outside at either end of the working day, you’ll feel the benefits of investing in energy efficient LED lighting, which can use between 60-90% less energy than old-fashioned lighting. LED lights also tend to be longer lasting and need replacing less often.

Don’t be afraid to challenge your energy provider – are they best provider for you, and are you on the right tariff? It’s easy to change provider, even if you rent your premises – you just ought to tell your landlord if they specify a preference on your rental agreement.

Try to make the most of natural light in your workshop. Keep the windows clean and unobstructed, and consider whether skylights or light tubes could replace artificial lighting. But always be mindful of minimum lighting requirements for safety.

It’s often the little things everyone can do that add up to make a big difference. So, encourage your technicians to adopt energy saving habits, such as turning off lights and equipment when they’re not in use.

1. What do you tend to buy from LKQ Euro Car Parts? We do have some equipment from LKQ Euro Car Parts, but we mainly buy mechanical parts and components. The range covers every type of product we need, and the key is that there’s a selection to choose from. Our preference is to buy the more expensive brands and go for the very best quality, but we’ve got options should a customer want to spend a bit less. We always discuss the options with our customers and go for the product or brand that best suits their needs and their budget, and that’s great for driving trust. Whether we buy from the top end of the range or not, we know we’re always buying quality parts and delivering a quality service. And you can’t argue with LKQ Euro Car Parts on price.

2. How do you tend to buy from LKQ Euro Car Parts? For us, it’s a 50:50 split between ordering online and over the phone.
