Creating bookings

With the MOT extension now finished from the 1 st August, managing your workload will be key for a successful workshop. Why should I reach out and book in services and MOTs? The demand for MOTs post lockdown is expected to double, or even triple, so managing your workload will be key to operating successfully. Scheduling your work now can help define your working hours and which technicians you’ll need, as well as help you effectively manage your finances. Arranging upfront bookings will help spread the word that you are planning on being business as usual to your customer base too.

Start by:

Work through your database to understand which customers need MOTs

Contact these customers, explain demand is high and not wanting them to miss out

Generate early and upfront bookings and managing workflow

If possible, offer a collection and delivery service

Help ensure social distancing rules are met and the right PPE used

High increase in MOTs, will also lead to a 50% rise in failure rates, this could create a workflow blocker. MOT testers could work longer to complete tests but there is only a limited number of technicians and hours to complete the work needed for them to pass. Contacting AutoTech recruit could help with this problem and provide temporary staff to help with demand.

Garage Management Software (GMS) is key to help with bookings and data. If you don’t have a garage management system, you should talk to your local branch about how CarSys can help.

Smart Garage Management Software that provides garages with organisational and technical solutions

CarSys GMS can support garages with the increased demand of jobs

The software, supports, maintains and organises, jobs are booked efficiently

Monitor stock levels, general workshop admin and invoice direct to customers

Get the right helping hands for the MOT demand

The MOT story Increase demand for MOTs and predicted increase in failure rate means there will be a squeeze on time available in workshops. What can you do to manage the workload? The best way to get more time is to open for longer hours – this means more technicians will be required. Taking on additional permanent staff has long term costs that you may not want. Autotech Recruit has the solution for you. They can provide you with fully trained technicians who have over 5 years experience, who are either specialist trained or master tech trained. Using a temporary technician will mean you have the right resource for the workload you are currently experiencing, without:

Losing customers because of resource

Removing a tech from the workshop to do MOTs

Increasing downtime on ramps due to resource

No long term investment in staff

Additional cost in the business

A temporary technician may appear to be an elevated cost per hour compared to your employed tech but you will have no admin costs and no long term employment costs. When the rush has gone and you simply don’t need them anymore you let them go – so no upset technician because they expect short contracts.

As the global industry leader, Arnott engineers, manufactures and tests air suspension shocks and struts at our facilities based in the EU and US. TOP INDICATIONS THE AIR SUSPENSION IS COMPROMISED:

CORROSION: Vehicles that have been sitting for an extended period of time may have increased corrosion of valve blocks and compressors. Ageing compressors may not produce enough pressure to raise the vehicle to the proper height. DRY ROT: Old rubber on an air bellowwill lose flexibility and eventually dry rot. Leaks, tears, and even the crimp ring separating are indicators of a compromised system. FAULT CODES: Dash fault codes may indicate that a system is no longer functioning. Checking the height sensor parameters with a diagnostic tool will help identify adjustments that need to be made. EXTENDED PARKING: Customers who have not driven the vehicle at least one time a week (to air up the suspension) may have a system that is developing corrosion or leaks.
