As you know, our branch network has remained open and operational throughout each of the lockdowns, and we’ve been very proud to maintain your support while you keep the nation’s vehicles on the road. During this time, we’ve introduced things that have allowed us to deliver the most stringent of safety measures, something we are still very diligent on as we play our part in keeping you and our teams safe. We know you and your business will have faced a great deal of challenges over the last 12-months, and we hope some of the supportive measures we introduced has helped ease that burden during a truly difficult time for our industry. As things begin to return to a new version of normality, you will continue to see advice led content and customer-centric offers from us, alongside the same levels of service and support you expect. Whether that is helping you plug the MOT gap between now and September with advice on where to look for additional revenue streams, training and support to prepare you for the future, or any one of the service solutions we offer to help your business reach its full potential – we’re here to help you. As such, one of our first focuses will be on how our account management team can bring back safe, socially distanced visits with our customers, as and when you would like to see them reintroduced. We are very much looking forward to being able to have those face-to-face conversations on how we can best support you now and in the future but remain committed to doing this as safely as possible. LKQ Euro Car Parts goes green in the Isle of Wight

Are you talking to your customers about cabin filtration?

As part of our ongoing commitment to decarbonisation, we’ve launched an electric vehicle (EV) trial on the Isle of Wight. The trial will see an electric Vauxhall Vivaro and an electric Renault Kangoo join the island’s fleet for six months, with two charge points installed to power them. The Isle of Wight was chosen for the trial following a review of our national fleet, taking into account charge point infrastructure, to identify branches with vans whose typical mileage is suited to the range and capability of an EV. Vehicles on the island typically cover approximately 70 miles per day, making it the ideal location from which to test and learn from new technology.

Every day we hear about the importance of fresh air and the impact it has on our health and wellbeing. But we rarely think about the air we breathe in through our car ventilation system. The protection of the driver and vehicle occupants against pollen and bacteria requires the use of effective cabin air filters. This is because during the pollen season there are roughly 3,000 types of pollen in just one millilitre of air along with several microorganisms such as germs, bacteria, viruses, fungi, spores and other pathogens.

Pollen filters These filters will protect the vehicle occupants from contaminants such as pollen and fine dust and help protect the air conditioning system. Anti-bacteria filters In addition to the functions of the carbon filter, these filters will also neutralize allergens and bacteria. Active carbon filters These also have the same function as pollen filters but in addition they will also separate foul smells and harmful gases such as ozone, smog, and exhaust fumes. We supply the highest quality cabin filters with brands such as, Mann + Hummel, Mahle, Bosch, and Crosland, and all our filters comply with current BER (Block Exemption Regulations) standards.

What are the benefits of renewing air filters? Health: a high concentration of pollutants in the air can lead to fatigue, giddiness, headaches, nausea and allergic reactions. Pollen filters provide improved protection against pollens, dirt particles and offer additional protection against traffic-related and industrial fumes. Allergy protection: Our cabin filters offer allergy sufferers and asthmatics protection against airborne pollens. Comfort: A pollen filter provides protection against unwanted odours, e.g. from agricultural fertilisers, sewage plants, anti-freeze and cleaning additives in the windscreen washing water. Safety: cabin air filters help to ensure clear visibility and enhanced wellbeing for drivers and passengers, with concomitant improvements in driving safety. Hygiene: cabin air filters counteract soiling of the window’s inside surface, and any soiling of the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. Talk to your customers about upgrading their filters and the benefits to them and their passengers. Top Tip #1: Keep your customers safe: Cabin air filters should be replaced every 12,000 to 15,000 miles and even more often in high pollution areas. Top Tips #2: Save your customer money! Regular replacement of the filters can extend the lifetime of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.

Vauxhall and Renault have sent digital training resources to the team on the Isle of Wight, for drivers to complete before starting the trial. The team will then monitor how the vehicles are performing throughout the six months, with a view to ultimately electrifying the remainder of the island’s fleet and increasing the number of charge points.

Tony Shearer, Director of Branch Operations Excellence said: “Moving our commercial fleet of around 2,800 vehicles to EVs isn’t going to happen overnight, but battery technology and charging infrastructure are improving all the time. “Our plan is to make the transition as and when EVs can seamlessly move into job roles that previously belonged to petrol and diesel vehicles, so that our commitment to reducing emissions comes to life with no impact on the effectiveness of our operation – and with no changes to the service levels our customers expect.

“Our size, scale and commitment to logistics excellence means we can get parts to every area of the UK on the same day, and in most cases, within the hour. We recognise that as market leader, we have a big role to play in pioneering the adoption of the latest vehicle technology on our fleet, which over time, could make a big contribution to the country’s net zero ambitions.”
