Garage Services

Hybrid and Electric

Why Garage Services? These days keeping customers and finding new ones is tough. With fierce competition, you shouldn’t have to decline work because you’re unable to offer services in-house. Nothing is more expensive than a missed opportunity. This is where our Garage Services from LKQ Euro Car Parts can help – a range of added value services designed to provide your customers with all the regular services required to keep their vehicles up to date.

By 2030, new petrol and diesel vehicles will stop being sold in the UK. It’s predicted by then there will be over 10 million hybrid and electric cars on the UK roads. This of course means more of these vehicles are being presented to vehicle workshops for repair or servicing. The systems used on these vehicles vary in operation and complexity. We can provide the training tools and equipment for your business to undertake this work.

Benefits of Garage Services: ■ Additional revenue streams for your workshop ■ Ability to provide first fix solutions ■ Increased satisfaction and retention ■ Avoiding losing a customer or work to a competitor.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

Engine and DPF Carbon Cleaning

With tighter MOT rules and limits linked to vehicle emissions, it’s vital that emission control devices such as catalysts and diesel particulate filters are functioning correctly. Why Carbon Cleaning? Trends show we’re keeping vehicles longer and looking to reduce cost of vehicle ownership. There are millions of vehicles on the road with DPFs. Up to 70% of clogged DPFs are unnecessarily scrapped, meaning you could be paying for a replacement when cleaning would restore the part to perfect working condition.

There are approximately 4.5 million Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) enabled vehicles in the UK, according to Thatcham Research. Calibration is required whenever a sensor’s aim is disturbed in any way. This can occur because of collision or in a workshop due to a windshield replacement, suspension repair or wheel alignment. All repairers should follow the UK Insurance Industry Requirements (IIR) for the safe repair of ADAS equipped vehicles.

Wheel Alignment

Regular alignment checks are an essential part of a vehicle’s service maintenance schedule. Every day driving affects wheel alignment and over time, wheels can become misaligned. Poor road conditions, potholes, kerbing a vehicle and worn suspension components will also impact on a vehicles wheel alignment. Most sources recommend an alignment service every 10,000 miles, 1 to 3 years, with each new set of tyres or when replacing steering and suspension components. It only takes 10 minutes to perform a wheel alignment check and it’s estimated that 1 in 5 cars coming into a workshop will have an alignment issue and on average 1 in every 14 vehicles checked will highlight issues that will require additional parts and labour work to be carried out.

Diagnostic Tools and Services

Having the right diagnostic tools can ensure your garage is able to diagnose and resolve issues across the vast range of today’s vehicles and changing technology. This also reduces the amount of technician time spent on each vehicle, giving you increased work capacity.

Air Conditioning

Tyre and Wheel Equipment

18 million vehicles have air con systems installed, and 95% of new registrations include it as standard. Air con checks and gas top ups are recommended to be done annually, allowing this to coincide with regular 12-month services and MOTs.

Around 10% of all MOT failures are tyre related. This trend has been increasing year on year, with the number one tyre failure associated to worn treads, bulges, and cuts in the tyre wall. Any vehicle displaying a TPMS fault when submitted for its MOT will result in a test failure. Due to wear, tyres need to be replaced every two to three years based on the current average annual mileage figures. This figure doesn’t consider any tyre damage caused by poor road conditions such as potholes. TPMS sensors/valves also need to be checked annually and replaced if required.

If you don’t have the equipment you need for certain jobs and find you are turning away or sending work to another garage, talk to your local LKQ Euro Car Parts branch about Garage Services. This could help bring your garage to the next level and open up your streams of revenue.

Supporting You and Your Garage for the Future

Whatever your requirements, we can provide an end-to-end service from an Autocad design to complete workshop package handover. We can also offer advice on safety railing, insulated tools and Personal Protection Equipment. Are you ready to accept Hybrid and Electric vehicles? Hybrid and Electric vehicle bays are generally wider and longer than standard workshop bays. Find out how we can help redesign your workshop spaces to accommodate these bays.

Training (LKQ Academy)

Hybrid and EV Training

There are several reasons it is important, here are a few: Why is Training your employees is important? Training your employees is important to provide the opportunity for employees to grow their knowledge base and improve their job skills to become more effective in your business. Despite the cost of training for employees, the return on investment outweighs the costs in the long run.

LEVEL 2: This course is specifically designed towards a person that may be required to work on an electrically propelled/hybrid vehicle and in particular the safety procedures and requirements of these types of technologies. Suitable for Technicians carrying out routine maintenance and repairs in or around electrical/hybrid propulsion systems, this course enables the delegate to have an understanding of the construction, function and layout of these types of vehicles along with the methods to ensure the systems are safe to work on to minimise the risks to self and others. COURSE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES LEVEL 2: ■ Terminology ■ Types of hybrid/EV layouts ■ Safety procedures ■ Operational conditions ■ Auto-Stop systems ■ Construction and function of hybrid systems ■ Handling hybrid components and safety procedures ■ Component operation ■ Construction and function of components. LEVEL 2 AND 3 HYBRID / ELECTRIC VEHICLE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES, SYSTEM REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT 263773020 COURSE DESCRIPTION

It improves skills and knowledge Training helps to improve the knowledge and skills of your employees in keeping up to date with changes in the industry. These improvements will positively affect the productivity of employees, in turn increase the profits and efficiency.

It shows employees they are valued Training will help employees feel like the company is invested in them. By continuing to teach your employees new skills and abilities, they will not just become better workers, they will feel like more productive members of your business This will improve their morale, loyalty to you and the business.

LEVEL 3: This course is specifically designed to cover all aspects of hybrid/ electrically propelled technology. It covers the basic procedures of safety in handling high voltage systems through to content that looks in depth at how the propulsion and re-generation system is controlled. Along with the management of the inverter power unit, a thorough understanding of battery management and how information is used to maximise the efficiency of the system will be gained. Other subjects covered include high voltage air conditioning compressors, DC-DC converters, PTC heater assemblies along with high pressure hydraulic braking systems and the management between conventional braking and regeneration braking balance. Suitable for Technicians carrying out repairs and replacement of hybrid/electrically propelled HV components.

Reduction in employee costs In addition to increased productivity training can also help you to reduce the overall employee salary costs through a more refined workforce. It stands to reason that if you have 10 highly well-trained and efficient employees, they can often do the same as 15 untrained, unmotivated, and uninspired employees.

Not all training is face to face and means an employee needs to leave the workplace, why not invest in E-Learning courses. At LKQ Academy we have 100s of courses available from air con to customer service, braking, electric vehicles to diagnostics.

LEVEL 3: ■ Terminology ■ Types of hybrid/EV layouts ■ Operational conditions ■ Auto-Stop systems ■ Construction and function of hybrid systems ■ Handling hybrid components and safety procedures ■ Construction and function of electrically propelled/ hybrid systems ■ Safe shut-down procedures and methods of electrical measurement

■ Construction and function of components Identification of control units, components and motor assembly – practical (subject to hardware availability) ■ Battery construction and operation ■ Brushless motor construction and operation ■ 3-phase principles ■ Motor control ■ Electrical regeneration ■ Inverter voltage rectification and regulation.
