WHAT IS TPMS?

Tyre Pressure Monitoring Sensor (TPMS) is a system to monitor tyre pressure inside tyres. TPMS was introduced into European mass production during a phase-in period between 2012-2014. A TPMS sensor (OE) has a designed life of about 7 years or 100,000 km (60,000 miles).

T his system is made up of a sensor mounted inside the tyre transmitting data to the vehicle and showing warnings to the consumer. 2) Indirect TPMS

T his system uses the ABS sensor to approximate the tyre pressure and alert the consumer.

■ There is a requirement within law to keep the systems fitted to cars after 2012 operational as they are part of the annual MOT/NCT tests ​ ■ To maximise the life span of the sensor it should be serviced anytime the tyre is dismounted.
