AROUND THE WHEEL

DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE IMPORTANCE OF CHECKING BRAKES THIS SUMMER

We strongly advise you start to recommend pre-travel checks to customers so they can get their cars into your workshop a good few weeks before they set off on their staycation.

WARRANTY 24 24,000 MONTHS MILES

Warranty is against wear and tear

If your customer’s journey involves heavy use of the braking system i.e. heavy traffic, towing caravans or mountainous areas, it is best to check their brakes and possibly replace any worn components well before the departure, to have enough time to perform the bedding-in process in ideal conditions.

PRE-TRAVEL CHECKLIST

Fluid levels (coolant, brake fluid and windscreen-washer fluid) and their condition

Thickness of brake discs and pads

Presence of any grooves or cracks on the surface of the brake discs

Overall condition of the brake calipers

Staycations remain very popular across the UK and ROI, so many customers will be using their cars to travel to their chosen destination. With increased levels of flexible working, cars have been left parked in garages or outside homes for longer and elongated periods of being stationery can be detrimental to the car’s condition. Customers need their cars to be reliable and run like Swiss clockwork, especially when they are hundreds of miles away from home. The braking system is a safety-critical part of the car and not something that can be neglected, particularly if the car has been left stationary for a substantial amount of time.

Condition of car lights (sidelights, full beam and dipped beam headlights, fog lights, brake lights, indicator lights, etc.)

Car battery

Operation of the air conditioning system

Tyre wear and pressure
