OPTIMISING THE TRANSMISSION PERFORMANCE

Transmission and transmission oil are subject to wear and tear and strongly depend on the operational conditions. In order to optimise service life and performance, we recommend regular checks and, where necessary, transmission oil changes too. This is particularly prudent for operating conditions with high temperatures and loads such as heavy cargo or trailer operation. Shorter change intervals are also recommended for many journeys at high speeds, very sporty driving or unknown vehicle use in the past.

SACHS WORKSHOP TIPS TIP #1 CLUTCH SLIPPING Clutch slipping symptoms can be as varied and wide-ranging as the causes. In this case, there are a few things to check: 1. Facings – are they worn down to rivet heads? 2. Facings – heavily contaminated with oil or grease? 3. Clutch facing – is it burnt or has it disintegrated? 4. Facing – does it contact the entire surface? 5. Clutch pressure plate – has it overheated? 6. Actuation system – signs of wear and tear? 7. Diaphragm spring – is it fractured? 8. Guide cams – are there any wear-induced ridges? Things you can do to resolve the problem: • Release system wear, check freedom of movement and adjust if required • Check vehicle has correct parts fitted • Check the flywheel is correctly reworked • See if any lubricant has contaminated the friction surfaces • Check if there has been a deformation and/or warping of the friction surfaces on the flywheel and pressure plate.

The SACHS range brings you all the key clutch kit parts and components you will need in one box – including clutch pressure plate, clutch disk and clutch release bearing ■ Pilot bearings for all common vehicle models – so you can be confident we have the right part for every customer ■ SACHS DBC provides outstanding vibration damping over the entire speed range – effectively reducing noise and creating a smoother, more comfortable drive ■ Kits include special grease for assembly – guaranteeing perfect, long-term clutch functioning for mechanics who insist on the best job for their customers ■ Quick and easy ordering – the simplicity of all the right parts with just one order number.

With everything in one package, changing oil is easier than ever. ZF has long been the leading vehicle transmission manufacturer with our units being used in a host of models. If your transmission is not from ZF – no problem – we now provide fully compatible oil change kits for other manufacturers’ units. Everything you need for an original-quality oil change. ZF supplies all the components you need for an oil change. Whether ZF LifeguardFluid transmission oil or our oil change kits – every single component is designed to be perfectly compatible with the relevant transmission. Don’t take chances with your choice – the wrong oil can become very expensive!

SELF - ADJUSTING CLUTCH

Clutches are subjected to continuous wear and tear, which is why LuK has invested tremendous efforts in the development of a wear adjustment solution. The SAC (self-adjusting clutch) uses a load sensor (sensor diaphragm spring) to activate its wear adjustment function by turning a ramped ring. This wear adjusting mechanism reduces the required actuation forces while increasing clutch life by around 1.5 times. Actuation forces remain nearly unchanged throughout the clutch's service life, and because clutch actuation comfort requires a harmonic operating load curve in addition to low actuation forces, it has been designed with the capacity to be tuned to each vehicle’s specific characteristic curve. The new SAC II doesn’t use a second diaphragm spring as a load sensor but instead has fingers formed from the main diaphragm spring and special tangential leaf springs with a regressive characteristic curve.

In recent years, self-adjusting clutches have become the standard equipment in applications with high engine torque or with increased requirements for wear reserve. The essential advantages of the SAC over conventional designs are: ■ Low release loads which remain constant throughout the entire service life ■ Excellent driving comfort throughout the entire service life ■ Increased reserve

The advantages of ZF LifeguardFluid: ■ Contains a mix of high-grade base oils and special additives ■ Helps to ensure smooth shifting and vibration-free operation ■ Special additives that extend the service life of all transmission components ■ Optimised viscosity maximises fuel savings ■ Keeps shift comfort as good as new ■ Original quality and therefore fully compatible.

for wear and consequently longer service life thanks to automatic wear adjustment ■ Release bearing over- travel is prevented by the diaphragm spring end stop.
