Whats new for BS AU 145e?

Near Infrared Contrast Part of the new testing criteria for BSAU 145e is N&R (Near Infrared) contrast. This is to increase the accuracy of ANPR camera readings (currently 3% of plates are misread, resulting in as many as 1 million vehicles being misidentified every day). As such, legibility and opacity of printed digits and their contrast with plate background is ever more imperative.

Abrasion Testing Intensive abrasion testing is new for BSAU 145e and measures the continued performance of retro- reflectivity after exposure to dirt,

In 2023 the stories that dominated news programs, websites and papers were all around inflation, higher interest rates and the cost of living. All three of these factors had some bearing on disposable income, and more importantly where it was spent. In general, the consumer voted with their wallet and made the necessary cuts to get by and survive. No question, we will have felt this belt tightening in our industry, many customers will have tried DIY maintenance where they can, others will have looked at how they can save on parts and shopped around. Some customers will have made do, especially when it comes to an MOT. How? If it passed, then great, if it passed with advisories, then many will have skipped getting the work done this time where they can. However, the likelihood is, that when it comes round to it’s next MOT, those advisories will probably need fixing before passing the vehicle for another year.

Helping your customers and your workshop With this in mind, how do you make sure that you are getting the follow up advisory work in 2024? One way is to go back through your customer database and contact them via phone to discuss previous advisories, and book the work in before the MOT deadline.

Garage Management System (GMS) Provider Using a GMS, if you have a GMS, use it to send out customer emails and texts advising on their next MOT date, advising to call back to book in. When they call to book a slot, you can have the discussion with the customer about previous advisories and maybe advise them to come in for a pre MOT check up. This type of action can make sure that you have an even flow of work on the ramps, and hopefully make space to attract any new work that you can fit in.

Their function is to prevent the deterioration of the suspension inevitably caused by the aggressiveness of the conditions to which the shock absorber is constantly subjected. When changing shock absorbers on the vehicle you should also check the condition of the rubber bump stops. If they are not looking at their best condition it is always worth recommending changing for new to protect the new shocks you have just fitted.
