MOT CAT awareness There are several reasons that can cause a Catalytic Converter to fail: • Incorrect fuel/air mix • Damaged or broken monolith (ceramic substrate inside the Cat casing) • Lambda sensor functioning correctly • Cat is blocked – incorrect fuel used / unsuitable fuel additive / engine problems. • Also, a car will fail an MOT if the Cat has been removed, as the Cat is designed to reduce a vehicle’s harmful gas emissions.
