CR (DZR) FITTINGS
Why use CR (DZR) brass and can it be used below the water line on marine applications? Corrosion Resistant (CR) brass or De-zincification Resistant (DZR) brass would seem as though they are two different metals, when they are actually the same. They are a type of brass that is designed to be used in harsh water applications, and are therefore suitable for use below the waterline on through hull fittings subject to the correct installation and hull material. To combat the de-zincification effect, raw materials are added to the compound and the fittings are heat treated during manufacture which ensures that the material will satisfy the requirements of the standard dezincification-resistance test. The reason they are put through this process is so that the zinc which is included in the compound of the metal during manufacture resists leaching out when in contact with salt water. This electrolytic corrosion is what causes fittings, seacocks or strainers to become brittle and fail. Other materials are available such as bronze or stainless steel; both can be used below the waterline on salt water applications. CR (DZR) brass offers a more cost effective option whilst still giving you the security of a having a good quality fitting which won’t deteriorate like a standard brass fitting would. CR (DZR) brass is made to an international standard CW602N and should carry the ‘CR’ (Corrosion Resistant) marking. All CR (DZR) part numbers are colour coded green . All fittings used for through hull applications must be correctly electrically bonded to ensure protection from electrolytic corrosion.

CR (DZR) BRASS THREADED SKIN FITTINGS
Maestrini threaded skin fitting made from dezincification resistant brass (DZR). This material is a brass alloy which prevents corrosion, caused by the loss of zinc in the fitting, making it suitable for exposure to sea water. Connects to a threaded pipe and is designed for through hull applications. Supplied with a fixing nut.
