WATER PUMPS – TECHNICAL UPDATE

The availability of this hugely popular pump has been limited in the aftermarket since 2020, mainly due to factory closures during COVID and ongoing supply chain issues. These issues have resulted in Schaeffler, Airtex and other suppliers improving and redesigning the water pump – one that isn’t supplied with solenoid. The pump itself does not appear to have evolved much in the last eight years since we started seeing these in the aftermarket, which is frustrating to many, as we hear reports of the three-shaft shroud mechanism jamming prematurely, often resulting in an early replacement. WHY NOT A WATER PUMP WITH BUILT-IN SOLENOID? All engine parts that work dynamically, i.e. in motion, have a much higher wear than the others and are normally assembled / connected with other parts that we usually call accessories. We are talking about screws, caps, nuts, washers, pulleys, tubes, terminals, etc. In the case of the solenoid, it is very easy to disconnect and reconnect on the new pump. Just unscrew a small set screw and screw it back in when replacing the new pump. When the vehicle arrives at a workshop to replace the water pump, we can reuse the solenoid fitted to the car (as long as it is in good condition and working correctly), thus saving costs and being environmentally responsible.
