NOT ALL OILS ARE EQUAL In this article we’ve tried to debunk some oil myths and why our customers should be offering the right oil for the right job.

Many competitor oils at a similar trade price claim their oils cover a range of specifications and a wide car parc. This couldn’t be further than the truth, and could be somewhat misleading to our customers. Oils are all constructed in the same way, they have a base oil, and then they have an additives pack, this helps them get specified by vehicle manufacturers and get recommendations for use. There can only be a couple of reasons why the price of an oil is cheap: 1. Lesser quality base oil 2. Not as many additives are added. We have looked at a popular type of oil, in the example table we are focusing on 5W 30, a grade that most garages would use. However when we compare MPM and Triple QX to Competitor A, we now start to see the differences of how our oils are made up, what approvals and recommendations they have, and importantly the coverage. What does this mean for our customer? If our customers are purchasing Competitor A, then they will be losing out financially at some point. The lack of recommendations and Approvals means that it will only fit a small car parc. Both Triple QX and MPM have more approvals and recommendations, meaning larger car parc and they do not need to keep buying different oils for different vehicle jobs. What are the other reasons for getting the right oil? Put simply, warranty. If a garage were to put the wrong oil into a vehicle, and that vehicle should fail, then the warranty would be invalid, (If it was still under warranty) of which the vehicle manufacturer would not pay out and the claim would lie with the garage.
