A calorifier is a simple and efficient means of heating water in your domestic system, for use with showers, taps and the galley. Comparable to a domestic boiler, these calorifiers have an inlet for cold water, but then use a link from the engines closed cooling circuit to heat the inner coil and in turn the water. They are also supplied with an immersion heater with a built in thermostat. The Hotpot range of calorifiers can therefore provide you with free hot water while motoring or charging batteries. The calorifier heats quickly as the drop coil technology ensures quick transfer of heat from the coil to the water. The outside of the calorifier is insulated in a polyurethane jacket designed to retain heat for up to 24 hours after the engine is switched off. Each calorifier is rigorously tested to ensure excellent quality and reliability. Water stored in the calorifier reaches the same temperature as the engine, generally about 85°C. When hot water is needed, the calorifier uses a thermostatic mixing valve to combine this water with cold water to give the required water temperature. For maximum heating efficiency, Hotpot water heaters should only be installed on engines with closed, pressurised cooling systems where the coolant water exceeds 74°C. Please contact us if your coolant water doesn’t exceed 74°C, as we may still be able to help. Why Copper? Hotpot calorifiers are made from 100% copper. This gives the best heat transfer performance as well as health benefits because copper has excellent anti-bacterial qualities, especially when compared to stainless steel and plastic materials. In tests, after seven days of immersion in water, 80% of stainless steel and plastics were coated in a biofilm, while copper showed little to no biofilm. Biofilms pose a significant threat to human health as they consist of E.coli 0157 and other microbiological bugs.

VERTICAL MOUNT CALORIFIERS Each vertical unit has two coils, so can be installed on single or twin coil applications. You can blank off a coil to make these units single coil. For details on how to do this, please contact our helpful sales team. Fitting kits need to be purchased separately, these are listed on the next page.
