SHAFT BEARINGS

Shaft bearings (also known as cutlass bearings) are water lubricated rubber lined bearings for propeller shafts and rudder shafts. They are installed in the stern tube or bearing housing to support the propeller and rudder shaft. GRP SHAFT BEARINGS BRASS SHAFT BEARINGS

Water lubricated shaft bearings made from a synthetic nitrile rubber inner with a naval brass shell. These traditional bearings are suitable for most general purpose applications. A new brass shell shaft bearing should have a clearance of 0.15mm per 25mm of shaft (0.006” per 1” of shaft).

Water lubricated shaft bearings made from a synthetic nitrile rubber inner with non-metallic GRP case. GRP is a non-permeable material with very little hygroscopic absorption, providing more stability as they do not swell in water like phenolic shaft bearings. They are also galvanically stable, helping to prevent galvanic corrosion. This makes them ideally suited to aluminium, steel or GRP boats and applications where corrosion may be an issue.

SHAFT BEARINGS SUITABLE FOR BENETEAU AND JEANNEAU

Many of the Beneteau yacht range are fitted with a special propeller shaft bearing, as are Jeanneau and some Dufour boats. Unlike hard cased shaft bearings, the Beneteau and Jeanneau shaft bearing has a rubber sleeve with a collar on one end. There is no outer hard case like traditional shaft bearings.
